When, do you think, is the best time to tell your children about the birds and bees?

i think mine are getting close to that age. When, do you think, is the best time to tell your children about the birds and bees?
I don't think there's a best time.. I think there should be open discussion as soon as possible about the differences between men and women and a progression from there... Then there's not some overwhelming crash course at a certain age. When, do you think, is the best time to tell your children about the birds and bees?
On an age/maturity/understanding appropriate level, from the day they are born, whenever it comes up.
my daughter is 3 and my wife and i think you should not ';baby'; children your doing them wrong by not educating them. my daughter watches the baby stories with my wife and sees how babies are born . the birth of a child is beautiful

shes not like eww or anything she thinks its cute when the babies are born cause of their crying. i think you should tell the kids what sex is and when its ';appropriate '; to do and that nobody is allowed near them until then. hence the pervs that are out there in this world the better you educate them the better off they will be i believe.
Teaching children about human sexuality is not making them grow up too fast- it is educating them with the correct information BEFORE they hear the wrong information from someone else! We have always told our children the correct anatomical names for body parts. My children all have learned how babies are born, where they come out of, etc... My oldest is 9 and she knows about menstrual periods and about all the changes she will be going through. That being said, we are a Christian family and also teach that the body is a beautiful thing created by God and that we should respect our bodies. It is an on-going topic. You can not just give one big ';talk'; and then leave it at that. I would say that by age 3 or 4, it should be something that is discussed on a regular basis so your child is comfortable coming to you when he or she does have questions!
when they are old enough to understand...now a days kids are having sex at a really young age.
When they start asking questions
I think you should be telling them about it from the age of 4. Just increasing the amount of information to their level of understanding. Girls get pregnant and boys are sexually active at 12. Get a move on.
';Girls get pregnant and boys are sexually active at 12. Get a move on.'; did she really say this???? Maybe SHE was, but most 12 year olds are not!!!

I say be open about reproduction and read books about animals and nature...how the baby is carried in the belly, nurses on the breast, etc. I told my 5 year old that the baby is carried in the mommy's belly and comes out the birth canal. When he was 8 he asked how the seed got in there, and I said daddy's body carries the seed and when they love each other and have sexual relations, he puts the seed (used real terms like semen, sperm) into her body and it fertilizes the egg.

He's 12 now (and NOT having sex nor is thinking about it) and is very comfortable talking with us about it.
i hate that kids seem to be growing up so fast.

i would probably tell mine when they are starting highschool because i guess thats when they actually start learning about it.

its a tough one though, i guess it really depends on when you think they are ready to take in that info.
Exactly, when they start asking questions.
When they start asking about it, when they start hearing references at school.
