In French, how do you say the birds and the bees?

I don't want to outrightly say sex because I'm discussing something that you use to describe the way someone would say it to a child [many years ago, at least].





She proceeded to tell her daughter about the birds and the bees.





There's got to be another way to say sex non-vulgarly other than 'sex.'

In French, we do not have ';birds and bees';, but faire des b茅b茅s also mean have sexIn French, how do you say the birds and the bees?

To tell someone about the birds and the bees:


';expliquer 脿 quelqu'un que les b茅b茅s ne naissent pas dans les choux';
les oiseaux et les abeilles
';comment on fait les b茅b茅s';





or tell them about ';la rose et le chou'; - but that is more telling them a fantasie story instead of the truth. This one is that women are born out of a rose because they are so sweet and men are born out of a cabbage (un chou)....uh... I can't remember anymore why men are supposed to come from a chou! .... LOL!
I agree with Arana. The usual lie was that babies were found in cabbages. A cabbage is large and round and when the leaves were opened, a baby would come out. Hence the expression: les b茅b茅s naissent dans les choux.

I don't have an answer, but I do have some possible insights.





Most other cultures, and certainly the French, are not as prudish as Americans. I am American but grew up overseas, in a Latin culture, and am still often amazed at how prudish Americans are.





Just guessing, but even to a child one would probably say ';sex';. Maybe more scientific, like ';sexual reproduction'; or ';human sexual relations';, or something milder like ';intimacy';, depending on the context.
