i'm just asking in general....... not depending on maturity, experiences, peer conversation, etc. just the general ';appropriate'; age.What is the ';appropriate'; age for the ';birds and the bees'; conversation?

This subject might be better addressed as a continuing dialog, rather than a single conversation. When children ask questions, give then age-appropriate responses. If they *never* ask questions, a parent could open the dialog, preferably early enough that the child (1) gets good information before being exposed to the myths and misconceptions that gets passed along by classmates, and (2) is reasonably well-prepared for puberty *before* it hits.


Short answer: by middle school.

Discuss the basics. They are already starting to develop at that age or are seeing peers who are.


I don't know what guys tell each other, but girls (when I grew up) still didn't know anything about sex or what guys looked like until we were intimate. The animated drawings in the sex ed. videos didn't conjure up any images in my head.


I still sort of wish someone had done a follow-up birds and bees in h.s. with some realistic material.
no one told me,school,and finding it out on my own was how.it varies alot these days,parents decide to wait late and then thats partly why you see 10 year old pregnant girls walking around because their parents assumed theyd play with barbie dolls and have tea parties forever.
i never got it but i did know my mom was up to something w/ the guys she dated. i found out really young bc my neighbor seen it in a book so we TRIED IT!!! and nobody told us it was wrong or anything!!! (btw it was a girl just so u know) but my cousins got the heads up when they were like 8. i wish i would of been told younger so i didnt try to do it or say stupid sh*t at school and get laughed at for not knowing what i was talking about.
start telling the little things at about 5 so the kid is aware before he is fed a bunch of lies from kids at school.
I never got it, I just figured it out for myself.
I say about 12 or 13 i guess......
