Is it true that girl bees rule over boy bees and are in control of the hive?

In a bee social system, there isn't really a hyerarchy. So I wouldn't say the girls rule. But it is true that all the ones you ever see in flowers are girls. The boys just live long enough to mate. In a hive, there is no controller or ruler, they all just make honey and build beeswax. Even the queen does no more than lay eggs, she doen't tell them what to do. The queen doesn't get royal jelly because it is better and it's reserved for the elite, but because she needs special nutrition for her special job. I would think that the males have equil rights in the hive. Here, if you have time, look at this. It is where I got all the info.Is it true that girl bees rule over boy bees and are in control of the hive?
i think you need to do a little more research. there are quite a few errors in your response. Report Abuse
Is it true that girl bees rule over boy bees and are in control of the hive?
For honey bees: In a sense, sure--but the queen doesn't actually issue commands or direct anything. Also the worker bees are technically female though they don't reproduce with the other ';boy'; bees (drones).

Also, it would be girl bee (singular) as all the other possible queens are not protected in the same manner as the hive queen and will probably be killed unless they move to start their own hive.
Not really girl beeS more like one girl bee.

But the term 'rule' is a bot misleading. They are insects and its not like they have free will. They are more like biological automaton programmed by evolution into filling an optimal role for the good of the hive. Like ants (close relative of them) they quickly transform to play a very highly specialized role.

The queen been has a unique role in the hive and is sole responsible of the reproduction (it makes sense; it is very taxing on female -a real full time job).As such; the queen bee spends it days sitting around and eating (also producing eggs) and is served by a small army of 'nurses'.

And, she is the most difficult bee to replace (the only that can not be replaced in a few days really) as such the queen bee is extremely protected and cared of.

All of these was reminiscent of the situation for a human ruler...
'rule over' is an interesting term that you use.

i am going to assume that you are talking about the honeybee as well.

in a hive, no one gender 'rules over' a hive.

each gender has a specific role to play.

the queen bee sole purpose is to lay eggs and reproduce.

the workers bee's roles are the gather food, nectar and pollen, to sustain the hive, feed the larvae bee's etc.

male drones are raised, really, to just fertilize the queen. after this is done, the males are disposed of from the hive as they have served their purpose.

the queen doesnt get off that easy as well. when deemed appropriate, the worker bee's will start feeding some larvae royal jelly (queen bee food) to grow another queen. the first one out, fights with the existing queen for dominance. the loser usually leaves and takes a portion of the hive with her to establish a new hive aka swarming.

so, to answer your question directly: do female bees 'rule over' the male bees? the answer from a purely utilitarian perspective and taking out 'human emotion', then the answer would be 'no'.
Yes. There is the Queen Bee which is the only bee that can have babies. The rest are all males and they are workers, diggers, guards, drones. They all have jobs and stations and do what the Queen demands. There is only one female per colony and if the Queen has female babies then they will grow up and eventually move out to become Queen's of their own colony and take some of the workers and what not from her mother's colony. What the discovery channel on it, it is very interesting and they take inside the colonies hive as they are moving a new Queen into her first home.
Just like in life: My ';Queenie'; rule all over me and she is in control of the hive...and I am just the Drone Bee and the worker bee alike!!

So basically when the ';boy'; bees get mad , they run away and disappeared, so this is one of the reason for the so called ';colony collapse'; :) So to all you girl bees, take good care of your drones!!!
Not exactly. The queen be is served by the other (sterile) females. The male bees are drones, are also served by the sterile females and do nothing other than mate with the queen. It's a tough job but somebody has to do it.
Yes, that's true.

The female bee is called ';The Queen.';

The male bees are called drones.

When the Queen dies, the drones are

left to fend for themselves.

I overheard drone say to another, ';Well,

this is another find mess you got me

into, Stanley.';
Just like with all creatures, neither can exist without the other. The queen bee provides the workforce and the workforce provides her food and security in order to make more workers. It's rather cyclical if you think about it. :)
yup all they do is sit n lay eggs and eat ..the guy bees have to do all the food collecting..also the queen bee is the biggest , in size, it rules over all the worker bees..
absoulutly you never heard of a king bee hav you......... no
yeah ever heard of the queen bee?
