My husband is allergic to bees and he had to go to the hospital yesterday.?

they prescribed him the epipen shots but what is the point in getting them if you have to come to the er as soon as you take it. i thought that this shot would keep you from having to go to the hospital. he doesn't have a severe attack like not being able to breath or anything he just breaks out from head to toe and his lips went numb and stuff. which is why he went to the hospital but i don't see the point in filling this prescription if he still has to go to the hospital afterwards neways. should i get it filled and whyMy husband is allergic to bees and he had to go to the hospital yesterday.?
Should your husband ever get stung again, having the Epipen might mean the difference between him living or dying. As the others explained, the injection simply helps provide a little more time to get to urgent medical care. Even once the injected, the effects may last only 15 minutes or so and allergic reactions can have a second wave or round. I've been advised by my doctor to have multiple pens on hand, in case I'm not within 10 minutes of a hospital. It doesn't sound like your husband has seen an allergist yet; he really should see one.My husband is allergic to bees and he had to go to the hospital yesterday.?
Just because one reaction may be non-life threatening and only cause a minor reaction, that doesn't mean that his next reaction can't be anaphylactic. In that case, you will need an immediate source of epinephrine (the epipen) and then immediate medical attention. The epipen alone will not cover a severe reaction. He would have to go to the ER and get meds such as benedryl and steroids on top of it. Don't slack when it comes to allergies. Get it filled and you could possibly save his life. Read up on bee stings and anaphylaxis. You need more education than what I feel like giving right now.
I agree. This is actually a very serious attack, and each attack does get worse. The Epipen allows you the time to get to the hospital before the air way closes or the heart stops or the body goes into shock.
B/C not everyone makes it to the hospital before sufficating b/c of airway constriction. This was a near death experience you guys just made it to the hospital in time. If he is this allergic (and he is very deathly allergic w/ the reaction you are describing) the point is for him to carry it in case you guys are too far from the hospital. On the lake, out of town, on the farm? How long would it take you to get to the hospital? He could be dead in 5 minutes b/c each reaction gets worse.
