Sex isn't something you bring up at age 10 or 12...


You have to answer the questions as they come up.


Give an age appropriate answer and hope they


understand what you are trying to convey. Even


if the child is only 2, your answer should meet


his needs. There are many books on the subject


in your public library. There are also films(DVD)


for the older children.

My parents have NEVER given me the talk and I'm 17. They know I have a good head on my shoulders.


But I loved how my mom just went to the library, and got me a book about everything when i was 10-11. It talked about how bodies change and about sex and everything. I appreciated that so I could learn on my own without having to be embarrassed by ';the talk';.
I learned about Puberty in the 5th Grade and I learn about STDs in the 7th Grade. So It's Best To Talk to them before they move onto Middle School, Because that is the time when relationships click.

a child should at least know the location of private areas as soon as they are able to talk, even if you have to give it a nickname. When my niece was 2yrs old she used to say that she needs her pamper washed which was her genitals. I wouldn't start talking to a kid about sex until the age of 8 but on the level that he/she could understand it. You don't want to expose them too much, yet you have to educate them enough.
I'd say about 10. My parents never talked to me about it.
I'm 20 years old. I know all about it from girl books on puberty and stuff. My parents NEVER talked to me about it. Just gave me the books. I thought it was a fantastic way to go about it. I'd hate to talk about sex with them, y'know? *shudders*





But... I wish they gave me the books BEFORE I started puberty. O_O
Usually when they ask about it. My mother gave me ';the talk'; when I was about 8. I think I told my son when he was around 10. My husband was given a book, when he was 16!!!
I think I was about 11 or twelve, and my mom was telling me, ';When you are older, you may experience certain feelings...' When I told her that I already did, she didn't quite believe me...
My parents haven't had the talk with me yet. But I already know what it is, so don't clue me in!
